Deep End

Fully restored HD version of Skolimowski´s cult 1970 classic with bonus material! Teenager Mike has a crush on his 22-year-old colleague Susan in 60s London. But Susan likes men - not boys. When Mike finds out she´s having an affair with one man and is engaged to another, he begins stalking her and sabotaging her relationships. And when she rejects him after giving him a taste of what he wants, Mike goes off the deep end…
London in the "Swinging Sixties." Mike, an introverted 15-year-old from a working-class background, works as an attendant at a public bath in a London suburb. The impressionable teen develops a crush on his attractive, 22-year-old colleague Susan, a street-smart girl who knows what makes guys tick. His feelings for her soon mutate into an adolescent amour fou. Forced to watch helplessly as Susan flirts with her male clients, Mike is seized by panic when he learns that she´s having an affair with his former teacher and is in a relationship with a young man as well. Frustrated and lacking the emotional maturity to cope with his feelings, Mike begins to stalk the object of his desire. He does his best to sabotage Susan´s relationships, but Susan shrewdly keeps him at bay, dexterously manipulating the boy´s feelings. After a violent argument, Susan rewards Mike the way he´s dreamed of, only to reject him again afterwards. That´s when Mike goes off the deep end…
DEEP END, Jerzy Skolimowski´s second English-language film, is a hauntingly disturbing love story that starts on a light note but gradually builds to a tragic climax. Like Antonioni’s BLOW-UP or Polanski’s REPULSION, DEEP END captures the sense of impending dread and spiritual breakdown in Swinging London at the end of the 1960s. The story of obsessive teenage love has a terrific soundtrack provided by singer-songwriter Cat Stevens and seminal German band Can.

Obviamente que o dvd é estrangeiro, mas já vale saber que num futuro próximo poderemos ver essa obra-prima em um release decente, imagem e som. Acho que é o melhor filme dos 70's....
